Little Sips of

Inspiration

Because we all need a little encouragement In The Climb

What is possible for you in 2022? Where could you go in your career? Do you need an action plan for success in 2022?

As we transition into the new year, now is the best time to re-evaluate where you are and where you want to be. What worked out well this past year, and what didn’t? And for the things that didn’t turn out too well, how do you change your direction?

Knowing which options to choose in your career path can be confusing. Maybe you’re facing new barriers or unique challenges you’ve never experienced before?

I LOVE asking this question.

It’s so exciting to hear people’s responses once they understand they are allowed to choose anything they want.

What would you choose? Do you have limiting beliefs that immediately rule out the ideas that come to mind? Have you gotten into a rut, unaware that you’re stuck, or worse, believing your job cannot bring you joy?

Join me at our next AudaciTea event, ☕ where you can meet fellow women who are pursuing their careers with passion and intention, who like you are searching and refining the right path towards fulfillment in their jobs.

🌺 What new dream can you envision today?

Sometimes we fall into dark periods, either at work or in our personal lives. This is when we struggle to see new possibilities from our muddy perspective.

But God’s plans for our lives are way bigger than any darkness. He has equipped us to go through these dark periods, and to believe that what we see as impossible today is POSSIBLE tomorrow.

Do I dare to believe it? Be brave enough to open your mind to new dreams.

If we desire to reach our destination of greatness, DARE to believe and envision new possibilities, and take that first step forward.

Leadership is hard. As professional women, I think we can all agree on that.

Good leadership involves taking the time to evaluate our performance. But what if we have blind spots?

Blind spots, obviously, are areas in our lives we don’t see clearly, or areas we completely miss to see what could be important. Others can clearly see them, and that is why having mentors is crucial to being able to develop the greatness we desire.

I see this all the time when I coach leaders for career success. They can be expending enormous amounts of energy climbing towards their dream career, but not know their strengths and weaknesses and are headed toward the wrong career.

God has blessed me with many, many mentors and role models who have assisted and guided me in my climb. This is why I am paying it back and coaching small groups of women in their professional careers.

People will say something is impossible because it's never been done before.

People will say something is impossible because it’s never been done before.

The impossible can be done by a dream and perseverance. Nelson Mandela would know, he successfully led the resistance and end to South Africa’s racist system of apartheid after 27 years in prison.

A dream begins with envisioning what could be, imagining it coming to life. Envisioning the possibilities.

There is no room for negative thinking if you want to achieve the impossible. Realistic thinking, yes, but negative discouraging thoughts, no.

My prayer for you this new year is that you begin to dream and envision what wonderful things could take place in 2022, with nothing standing in your way. Let’s practice dreaming together, and praying for a vision of what God has for us this year.

Sometimes we fall into dark periods at work.

This is when we struggle to see new career possibilities and only see the clock telling us to stay at the desk for more hours.

Those dark periods may be because you have performed a role for some time and are ready to move on. You may not know where to begin to figure out what is next. You are stuck.

Have you ever been stuck at work, and if so, what did you do to get unstuck?

If you cannot grow further at your job, then it’s time to expand your vision.

Start searching for the jobs you are interested in by using  keywords for the work, not the job title. For example, I searched for public speaking and the Caribbean. Organizations and professional events will come up, and opportunities for you to explore further will open.

When you find a job you’re interested in, identify the requirements needed and work on gaining those skills. Then you will be ready for an interview when an opportunity appears.

This is how you get unstuck, and expand your vision.

Theresa writes “Markiesha’s “Herstory” of faith, belief, perseverance, and determination is the most moving perspective I’ve read.”

Wow, that says a lot, as Theresa has her own amazing journey. I am grateful for her support and inspiration. Yes Theresa @thetheresaharrison, we are able!

If you are curious about my journey to joy, you can pick up a copy of my book ‘In The Climb’.

Dreams need funding to be executed.

Part of planning for our dream is saving money and preparing ourselves financially.

A first step is to stop buying unnecessary things, and start a budget to track your spending and expenses. Then you can work on eliminating your debt so that you have money to save. I used tools on ‘I Was Broke Now I’m Not’@iwbnin and it worked!

Pursuing our dreams will take discipline and hard work, but by preparing financially and having a good plan in place, we set ourselves up for success.

Project planning is not the most exciting task, but it is necessary to get to your dream.

No matter how large or small your dream is, a detailed plan is needed to execute it effectively and efficiently (and not waste any of that hard-saved $ to fund your dream).

Creating plans keeps you on track and moves you from your dream, to goal, to plan, to action, and to achievement.

I learned to create lists of tasks, add due dates to them, and update the status as steps were completed. I put everything I could think of that needed to be done in my spreadsheet.

Your plan will be your compass to keep you on track, prevent you from feeling overwhelmed, and guide you in what to do next.

If you want to succeed in achieving your dreams and goals, you must learn to endure negativity.

Negative people and situations are unavoidable. To thrive in your career and find joy in this life, enduring negativity will become necessary during some part of your journey.

Do you have any negative experiences coming up this week you can prepare to face? If you need help, reach out to me.

It was exhausting to work in firms where people were climbing over each other to get to the top.

Others were digging holes for their competitors. Some beat their chests demanding to be heard. Gossip flittered everywhere.

To survive without losing myself, I learned to pray prepare for each day, and create my own affirmations. This was powerful and helped me fight off negative thoughts at work.

Friends, you’ve got to actively push back against the negativity, or it will drag you down and away from your dreams.

Focus on your end goal. Pray, speak light and gratitude, and pursue joy above all.

"I was limping..."

Last week I was walking up a street in downtown Philly when out of nowhere I tripped over thin air and fell. I mean fell, real hard!

Well isn’t that how negativity hits us, out of nowhere. We’re moving along just fine, and then before you realize it you’ve lost balance and crash on the concrete. It’s inevitable.

As I fell, I heard a woman on her phone saying, “Oh wow, yea girl she fell all the way down, wait, she’s up walking, but she’s limping!”

I was limping with a hurt knee and crying out of frustration and embarrassment, but I was walking. So I got up, and you can too.

I was on a boat in Saint Lucia recently and was struck by the truth...

I was on a boat in Saint Lucia recently and was struck by the truth of it’s women’s bathroom sign. These thoughts came into my mind.

Women can face a lot of negativity at work. Especially women in the climb for greatness.

Watch your head on your way up! You may hit a glass ceiling.

Watch your head when you’re feeling down! Keep looking up!

Keep it lifted up no matter what you face. Pursue joy, friends.

I strongly believe that to achieve the success we are after, we must be generous.

And if we are open to giving away what we need, it will come back when it’s needed most. This applies not only to money but to your time and your talent too.

Have you ever tested this? I’ve tested it and found it true for myself. Ask me how paying my mother’s closing costs on her home when I was close to breaking turned out.

I challenge you to test this principle for yourself and see if it truly is true. Miracles are waiting to happen if you step out in faith. Contact me if you’d like to be encouraged to exercise generosity.
